Rashmi Singh | Founder

Rashmi Singh is the Founding Director of the Office of Student Life at Ashoka, instrumental in crafting university culture that is intellectually, socially and culturally stimulating. She is an accomplished educationist with over 15 years of experience. Her passion lies in exploring everyday life through creative expressions of Music, Art, Culture and Heritage and synergising these with academic learning. Curious and inspired by her grandmother’s textile heirloom, she is currently researching on everyday heritage through the tradition of kasida, an intrinsic art of thread work and hand-embroidery in Bihar. She has been the author of several development reports and academic papers. She stood 3 rd in University of Delhi and was awarded the National Scholarship from Government of India for her Bachelor’s in Sociology from Miranda House College. She then went on to pursue her Master’s where she was awarded M.S.A Rao Gold Medal by the University for outstanding performance and M.Phil. in Sociology from Delhi School of Economics. Her M.Phil. Dissertation “Profane Practice in and around a Sacred Complex” offers an insight into the dynamic relationship between Sociology and Economics.

Nishita Banerjee | Program Manager

Nishita Banerjee a graduate from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, has been working in the field of Rural Livelihood Development from last four years. She has been a part of leading social sector organizations like Kaivalya Education Foundation where she worked as a Gandhi Fellow, Digital Empowerment Foundation as Project Lead and a Government Consultant and Advisor as part of the Chief Minister’s Good Governance Program and Haryana Khadi and Village Industries Board. Currently she is a Program Manager at Awalkhana.

Prabha Devi | Field Team

Prabha Devi is an expert in the craft of Kashida and Applique. For her the craft of Kashida has been existing in her family from time immemorial. She grew up with her aunt who made her an expert in the art of kashida. She has provided number of trainings to students in kahsida and applique art starting from 1980 where she provided training at the Charkha centre in Bihar and later at the Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusadhan Sansthan for many years. She She is currently a field expert and community mobilizer at Awalkhana
